How to get a cozy Scandi look

Stunning whites give an airy feel

If you’re looking for a cozy Scandi style in your home, then today’s blog post is for you. I caught up with Traci of @tcdathome who has perfected the look perfectly. She was kind enough to share her top tips with us, so read on and get ready to cozy up your home this winter!

Tell me about you?

m a lady of a certain age although I’m in denial of that. I live with my husband, and two sons Ross 16, and Nairn nearly 14. I’m dog crazy and I’d have the house full of them despite the mess. I’m a business consultant in the corporate world, mainly the pharmaceutical industry, and I run my own decorative arts company @tracicrawgorddesigns.

Have nothing in your HOME, that is not useful of Beautiful

HOW LONG AGO DID YOU START YOUR INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT AND WHY?

I started TCD about 4 years ago now and @tcdathome as one of my insta friends said why not start a home account as when you’re styling your art your home looks fab… and I did. I did it for a bit of fun but also to get some insitu shots for my art and then people could see how a certain design could be styled. It really helped with TCD. Now I do it because I love it!

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR HOME?

We live in a 1930s typical Glasgow extended bungalow. It’s a tardis. Looks small from the outside but has surprisingly large square footage inside.

I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT YOUR STYLE, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE IT?

Mmm not sure on that one. I like Japandi style. Sort of Scandi but cosier but I’m also a little bit more glamorous so I’m going with Glapandi…..see what I did there? I like to keep up with trends so I’m in love with the Japandi style right now. I’m not as minimal as true Japandi as I also like a bit of glamour. I’d say it’s probably …. Glampandi …. ???????????????? don’t steal that I’ve just made that up!

I’m trying to pare back my looove for accessories and get it more minimal but I struggle on that one. Sometimes less is more right? But I do like it more and more especially when it comes to accessories.

Or do you mean my personal style? Again for a lady of a certain age, I like to dress a little younger and keep up to date with fashion trends too to an extent but since lockdown, I think I’ve got a little too keen on my trainers

WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO YOUR CURRENT HOME?

Now that’s a tricky one, this house was in a TV programme ‘Try before you buy’ I’ve never seen it, can’t find it on the internet either but the couple who looked at it were so overwhelmed by the state of it that they rejected it. We came to view it and we came out of the house and I said to Bob “I think we’ve found our house” and he was gobsmacked!!! ????????…. Despite it being a homage to the 70s it had the most beautiful grounds, set back on a main road. It had beautiful high ceilings, unexpectedly for a converted bungalow. Great room proportions etc and I knew instantly that it could be fabulous once we got rid of the 2cm thick Artex on the walls and the Fife stone fireplaces ????????

WHICH IS YOUR FAVORITE ROOM?

My lounge is at the front. I’ve finally found my style (whatever that is). I also got to throw a bit of money at this room to get it how I wanted it. Bob’s not massively keen on spending money on home improvements. He’d live in a house for years and never update it if it wasn’t for me.

BEST BUY?

Apart from favourite accessories we’ve just laid the patio out the back. Honestly, I can’t tell you how happy that’s made me. Our patio was in a terrible state and had been for years so I’m loving it right now. If the Scottish weather could improve I don’t think I’d need to venture into the house at all!!!!!

Simple LIVING

I absolutely LOVE your style, what inspires you

Instagram is a fabulous place for inspiration. I’ve always loved interior design and keeping up to date with trends. I love love love having a bash at making things EVEN when I can buy them. There’s something about it that I find incredibly satisfying. I love looking through magazines and I just love looking at other peoples beautiful homes

Tell me something you can’t live without and something you wish you never brought.

Oh my god, my hot water tap is my ultimate luxury and now I have it, I would kill you if you tried to take it away ???????? I waste money all the time trying out all my little ‘follies’ as Bob calls them. I’ve made a few mistakes over the years that’s for sure.

Is this your forever home?

Mmm never say never. We bought this home with a view to doing it up and moving on. We then had kids and the arse fell out of the market so we stayed and we’ve been here 17 years now ???????? but I never say never. I’d be happy to have another doer upper and a project to get stuck into.

What projects are left to do?

The list is as long as my arm. Update our kitchen, that would be my number one. Do the main bathroom properly and I’d like to create a ‘parent pad’ master suite upstairs …. Now that would be amazing to escape the nocturnal beasts that live in this house!!!!!!

So is Scandi your Style?

hope you enjoyed reading this blog post. So do you think cozy Scandi is for you? I can certainly imagine it in my garden room this winter! Mr. C won’t be happy he wants the Garden Room for the garden furniture in the winter but I can see me totally rocking cozy Scandi curled up under a throw with loads of sheepskin rugs on chairs and hot chocolate with marshmallows on the top!
