Florida Revisited: A Journey Down Memory Lane

Singer Island, South Beach, & Everything in Between
It had been over 20 years since we lived in Florida, but the moment we stepped off the Virgin Voyages Valiant Lady after our transatlantic crossing, it felt like no time had passed at all.
As soon as the cruise came up, we knew we had to make the most of it, and what better excuse to revisit our old stomping grounds than a reunion with friends from our Florida days? James reached out to a few of his old colleagues, and as luck would have it, Nathan (one of the lawyers he used to work with) was free and excited to meet up. He flew down from Atlanta, arranged a lovely Vrbo apartment, and we sorted out the car.
And then, just like that, I was back behind the wheel on the I-95. The sun, the road signs, the rhythm of traffic, it all came flooding back. It honestly felt like we’d never left.
“Palm Beach is where the breeze carries stories of old glamour, ocean views soothe the soul, & every sunset feels like a private showing.”
Road Tripping Through West Palm Beach: A Drive Down Memory Lane
After collecting Nathan from Fort Lauderdale Airport, the first stop was lunch in Royal Palm Beach. Fueled by good food and laughter, a nostalgic drive through The Acreage and Wellington to see our old homes. It’s amazing how familiar things still looked, some changes here and there, but the heart of the neighbourhood remained just as we remembered it.
Where to Stay: Oceanfront Bliss on Singer Island
We based ourselves on Singer Island, staying in a gorgeous apartment with a balcony view of the Atlantic Ocean, sunrises and sea breezes included. It was peaceful, relaxing, and gave us the perfect base for exploring nearby West Palm Beach.
And yes, I wasted no time making a beeline for Target to stock up on Studio McGee homeware (I just can’t resist), and I even managed to snag a few bits from Magnolia Market while I was at it. You can take the girl out of Instagram home inspo…

What to Do in Palm Beach, Florida: From Breakers to Beaches
The following days were filled with nostalgic wanderings across West Palm Beach. We strolled along familiar streets, reminisced about long-gone hangouts, and rediscovered a few hidden gems. Sadly, Sprinkles Ice Cream, my beloved treat stop, was closed (honestly, I’m still not over it), but we did make it to The Breakers Hotel.
That place holds so many memories for us. It was where we often spent time when we lived in West Palm Beach, and where I celebrated my 40th birthday. Walking through its grand halls again felt like stepping into a time capsule, elegant, timeless, and utterly magical.
From Singer Island to South Beach: A Mini Miami Getaway
After two days packed with catch-ups and memory-lane moments, it was time to drop Nathan back at the airport and head off for the next adventure, South Beach, Miami. We stayed at the Riu Plaza Hotel, right in the heart of it all. It was modern, well-located, and perfect for soaking up that classic Miami energy.
We wandered through the iconic Art Deco District, marvelled at the glowing pastel architecture, and did a bit of late-night shopping (as you do).
One place that completely stole our hearts again was Lincoln Road. Especially in the evening, it had this vibrant, slightly magical atmosphere. With twinkling lights, alfresco dining, street performers, and that unmistakable South Beach spirit, it was the perfect place to unwind, people-watch, and soak in Miami’s charm.

Why Florida Will Always Be Part of Our Story
Revisiting Florida was more than just a holiday, it was a heartwarming reminder of how special that chapter of our lives was. Being able to reconnect with old friends, revisit places that once felt like home, and share it all again after two decades made this trip truly unforgettable.
Until next time, Florida, you’ll always have a piece of our hearts.
