How to create an outdoor living space

My Summer Garden Setup
Creating the Perfect Outdoor Living Space: My Summer Garden Setup has been a real passion project over the past few years. I wanted a space designed for relaxing, entertaining, and soaking up every bit of sunshine. We’ve focused on turning our garden into a stylish and functional extension of our home.
Making it the perfect spot for alfresco dining, lazy afternoons, and cosy evenings with friends and family. Let me take you on a little tour of how we brought it all together!
“Outdoor living isn’t just about style, it’s about creating moments, making memories, and soaking up the beauty of everyday life under the open sky.”
A Stylish and Comfortable Foundation: Our Pergola and Sofa Set
The highlights of our garden makeover was collaborating with White Stores to choose the perfect pergola and sofa set. The pergola provides just the right amount of shade during sunny afternoons while still letting in that glorious dappled light. It really defines the space, creating an outdoor “room” that feels cosy, stylish, and inviting.
Shadow Pergola
Our new Shadow Pergola from White Stores has totally transformed our patio. The 3x3m size fits like a glove, and the soft pebble colour ties in beautifully with the natural tones of our garden. I love how easy it is to tilt the louvres, one quick turn and I can switch from soaking up the sun to enjoying some cool shade.
When those classic UK showers roll in, the built-in drainage system kicks in and handles it all, no puddles or fuss. It’s turned our garden into a proper outdoor living space, and we’re already spending so much more time out here.
Freya Sofa Set
Underneath it, our sofa set makes the area so comfortable, it’s the ultimate lounging spot! Whether it’s morning coffee, afternoon reading, or evening drinks, the plush cushions and spacious seating have made it everyone’s favourite hangout zone.
I’m absolutely loving our new Freya corner sofa set in graphite grey, it’s totally transformed our outdoor space and made it feel like an extension of our home. The sleek aluminium frame looks so modern and stylish, and I love how the soft cream cushions pop against the grey. They’re super comfy too, perfect for lazy afternoons in the garden!
I love how practical this set is, the pull-out side table is such a clever addition when I need extra space for drinks or snacks. The coffee table doubles as a footstool with its comfy cushion, which makes it even more versatile. The polywood tops add a gorgeous natural finish, and the whole set feels solid, sturdy, and built to last.
It’s also really low maintenance, which is a huge bonus, just a quick wipe down keeps it looking spotless. And the built-in clips keep the sofa sections nice and secure, so everything stays in place. It’s such a versatile and beautiful set, I couldn’t be happier with it!

As Summer Heats up, it’s time to dine outside

Alfresco Dining: BBQs, Pizza Nights, and Outdoor Entertaining
One of the real joys of outdoor living is dining outside. We’ve fully embraced alfresco meals, and our outdoor kitchen setup has made it easier (and more fun) than ever!
Our Summer House Retreat
One of the best investments we’ve made in our garden was our Jannie cabin from Tuin. It gives us the best of both worlds, with undercover shade outside on warmer days, and a beautiful indoor space when the weather is cooler.
It’s somewhere I can sit with a book, listen to music, or simply enjoy the garden from a different perspective, while still feeling completely connected to it.
Inside, it has become a calm and cosy retreat, and outside, the covered area offers welcome shade during the height of summer. It has extended how we use our garden, not just on sunny days, but across the seasons, and has become one of our favourite places to spend time.

Essential Refreshments: The Outdoor Fridge
To keep entertaining effortless, we added an outdoor fridge and it’s been a total game-changer. It’s always stocked with cold drinks, saving endless trips back into the house during busy gatherings.
Whether it’s a chilled glass of white wine, a refreshing soda, or ice lollies for the kids, everything is right at hand.

Soak and Unwind: Our Patio Hot Tub
Another feature we’ve loved adding to our outdoor living space is the hot tub. It’s also located on the patio, making it easy to enjoy whenever we want to relax.
Whether it’s a quiet soak under the stars or a fun weekend treat with friends, it’s the ultimate way to unwind. The hot tub adds a luxurious touch to our garden and has quickly become a firm favourite all year round. There’s something magical about sinking into warm bubbles with a drink in hand while the garden lights twinkle around you.
Final Thoughts
Creating a versatile outdoor living space has genuinely transformed how we enjoy our home during the spring and summer months. With our pergola and sofa set from White Stores providing the perfect foundation, and the BBQ, pizza oven, outdoor fridge, and summer house completing the setup, we’ve built a space that suits everything from casual family dinners to lively summer parties.
If you’re dreaming of elevating your own garden, I can’t recommend taking the time to invest in a few key pieces enough. It’s made all the difference for us and I’m counting down the days until our next sunny weekend spent outside!
